Garmel Rich of Rigolet, Nunatsiavut was recently awarded with the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council's Life Time Achievement Award. Garmel, who is renowned throughout the province for her grass sewing, has created hundreds of beautifully crafted and precious pieces of artwork. As a young girl, Garmel learned how to sew grass from the women in her community. She kept up the tradition, and is now one of the few women in the province that continues to practice the artform.
