The southern most Inuit community in Nunatsiavut, Rigolet, will host Wells Gray Tours motor coach Newfoundland and Labrador program on Saturday June 23, 2012. Travelling aboard the local ferry, the Northern Ranger, guests will experience the breath taking scenery, abundant marine species and bird habitat of our coastline. Transportation aboard the hop on, hop off ferry service is guaranteed to provide an authentic atmosphere with various opportunities for cultural interaction.

The hop on, hop off Northern Ranger Ferry tranportation and cargo service will begin on Monday evening June 11. The 'Ranger' will leave the port of Goose Bay on Wednesday June 13 traveling to the North Coast of Labrador.

Reponding to consumer demand for quality experiences in Northern Labrador, a customized customer service training program is being offered in Nunatsiavut on June 5 in Nain. Facilitated by Terri McColloch, participants will include local operators, cultural providers, business owners, and service professionals!

A youth project led by snow sailing master Benoit Havard was hosted in Nain on March 8-12 and April 4-11, 2012. The initiation camps showcased the snow sailing potential in northern Labrador and the development of a future group of Inuk instructors. Be sure to check back for updates and upcoming blog posts!

The International Polar Tourism Research Network recently held their third bi-annual conference in the community of Nain, Nunatsiavut. The conference brought together polar tourism researchers from around the world to discuss and explore how tourism is changing the polar regions.

The 3rd annual Nunatsiavut Heritage Forum was recently hosted in Makkovik, Nunatsiavut. The Forum brought together local heritage committee members throughout Nunatsiavut, provincial experts, and special guests for three and a half days.

Stephen Loring, representing the Smithsonian Institute, speaks about his experience in Labrador and role of archeology in the area in this CBC Labrador Morning interview.

Garmel Rich of Rigolet, Nunatsiavut was recently awarded with the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council's Life Time Achievement Award. Garmel, who is renowned throughout the province for her grass sewing, has created hundreds of beautifully crafted and precious pieces of artwork. As a young girl, Garmel learned how to sew grass from the women in her community. She kept up the tradition, and is now one of the few women in the province that continues to practice the artform.

Noah Nochasak of Nain and adventurer Jerry Kobalenko recently arrived in Kangiqsualujjuaq, Nunavik (northern Quebec), completing their 44 day, 550km expedition by foot. The two adventurers partnered-up after Noah expressed that it was a dream of his to complete a long-distance walk between Nunatsiavut and Nunavik.

Both Noah and Jerry have many stories to tell of their walk, some of which are available at CBC's Labrador Morning and Polar News Exploreweb.
